This video explores the role of an HVAC Engineering Lead, focusing on the design, installation, and operation of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems in modular structures. The HVAC Engineering Lead ensures that optimal air distribution, temperature control, and ventilation are achieved while collaborating with multiple disciplines, including architecture, electrical engineering, and fabrication.
Role Overview:
An HVAC Engineering Lead is responsible for overseeing the design, installation, and operation of HVAC systems in modular structures. They plan the layout of air conditioning units, ductwork, and ventilation systems to ensure efficient airflow and cooling. This role involves collaboration with various teams to integrate HVAC systems seamlessly into the overall design and installation, ensuring functionality and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities include planning the placement of AC cassettes, ductwork, and ventilation grills to optimise airflow in different environments. The HVAC Engineering Lead works closely with architecture, electrical, and fabrication teams to ensure smooth installation and resolve any clashes with other systems. They oversee factory acceptance tests (FAT) to validate HVAC controls, ensure plug-and-play functionality, and conduct post-installation system checks. The role also involves leading a team of engineers and technicians, while supporting the development of apprentices and junior engineers in HVAC principles.
Qualifications:
Required technical skills for this role include a strong mechanical aptitude for assembling and troubleshooting HVAC components, knowledge of airflow dynamics, heat transfer, and refrigeration principles, and the ability to read and interpret technical HVAC drawings. Familiarity with PLC-based control systems for automated HVAC operation is also important.
