Role Overview: The Life Support Technician (LST) is responsible for overseeing the safety and operational conditions of saturation divers living in pressurised chambers. They manage gas mixtures, temperature control, and life-support systems to ensure the safety and comfort of divers working in extreme deep-sea environments.
Key Responsibilities: Oversee the safety and operation of up to 18 saturation divers in pressurised chambers. Manage gas mixtures (helium and oxygen) based on depth requirements. Maintain temperature control within the chambers to ensure diver comfort. Operate medical and equipment locks for delivering supplies and essential items. Conduct lock runs to transfer equipment, waste, and laundry between the chamber and the vessel. Monitor and manage rebreather systems, umbilicals, and diving hats for divers. Assist in the transportation of the diving bell through the vessel’s moonpool. Train and mentor Assistant Life Support Technicians (ALSTs). Ensure compliance with industry regulations and health and safety standards.
Qualifications: Essential qualifications include the HSE-approved Assistant Life Support Technician (ALST) course (2 weeks, intensive), 2,000 hours of logged offshore experience before taking the LST exam, a strong foundation in maths, physics, and gas laws, and an HSE Part 1 Air Diving qualification for divers transitioning to LST roles.

For the past 19 years, Fay has been a qualified Life Support Supervisor, ensuring the safety and efficiency of offshore operations. Her early career includes seven years as a Commercial Air Diver, four years as a welder fabricator, and two years as a welding inspector and certification engineer. Her diverse experience spans multiple international locations, including Singapore, Indonesia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Norway, Holland, and France.
In addition to her technical expertise, Fay is a qualified Human Givens Psychotherapist, offering mental health support offshore. Recognising the rising challenges of workplace stress, she provides confidential counselling services and delivers tailored presentations to offshore crews, equipping them with practical tools to manage stress and improve overall well-being.
